Shomaru Yokoze

On the way to Chichibu, there is a great place to look at the ice and frozen river.

Wow wow wow......out of nowhere ....... Went on a weekend driving down from Tokyo. It's easily accessible by train too. One can easily spend 45 mins to an hour here. It was chilly , but bearable. There is a nice eatery near the station to enjoy some steaming udon and Soba

The place is perfect for a nice weekend. The icicles were beautiful in the morning you could enjoy the natural scenery. You could enjoy a special kind of drink special to this area. It's said to help with mountain climbing. It tastes like a strawberry yogurt. The other food you can eat is some kind of vegetables stew. At night the beautiful illumination creates a special mood. Totally recommended.

This is nice place to stop by. Make sure you wear warm clothes and comfortable shoes. Strong recommend to bring your own warm drinks. Also stop by a bathroom before enter the entrance.

Beautiful place. Note that these are artificial icicles. More gorgeous during the night. Place is packed with a lot of people. They provide heating, please see pictures.

Gorgeous scenery and close to the bus stop! It was easy to get out here, I would recommend it!

One of the three major icicles in Chichibu.The light condition is good in the morning.The trains are easy to access, so it starts to get crowded around 10am.There are many sightseeing buses and tourists from abroad can cross without mercy even if they are taking photos.Let's go early if you want to watch it quietly and take a picture.Local women's associations play a central role in providing free sake or tea.The stove that reuses drums is warm.The photo is from a visit in 2019.

Beautiful and well lit man made icicles. A little far out from Tokyo, but it’s very near Ashigakubo station.

Artificial icicles but really beautiful at night. The entrance fee is inexpensive.

Near the roadside station.I went to see icicles.It is close to the road station and is a good distance for a short walk.It seems to be lit up at night, so is it better to go at night?It is very masterpiece, but it is artificially made, so the impression is a little reduced by halfBut it's so beautiful that it doesn't hurt to go.Above there is a service to choose sweet sake or tea, and there are also local vegetables.

I think we went a little too early. It was great, but not as majestic as I'd imagined it would be. Maybe I had high expectations. But other than that, it was a unique experience to have.
